For three days, it was a beehive of activities, as the Society of Petroleum Engineers, SPE, held its Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition (NAICE), in Lagos.

Speaking at the change of guard to a new order, SPE Nigeria Council Chair, Debo Fagbami, revealed that according to the culture of SPE, the official staff of office should be presented to the Vice Chairman, Joseph Nwakwue. He wished him success as he runs the affairs of SPE, in 2020, urging him to work towards perfection, after receiving the seal of office.

After receiving the staff and seal of office, Nwakwue acknowledged that the journey to the throne has been a long one and appreciated the confidence reposed in him, by SPE. He stated thus: “SPE Nigeria Council is a very healthy society, because the people have talents, and I have no fear that this Council will deliver.”

The new Chairman noted that there will be innovation in the next one year, as the society will be led by new system, for effective performance. Specific areas with respect to industry and academic relationship will be enhanced.

Nwakwue described Fagbami as a motivational leader, who never saw any challenge insurmountable. “When you give him any job, he will say do not worry we will get it done and he will always get it done.”

He told SPE members, that successors have been groomed by the outgoing board, to manage the helm of affairs of the society.

The new SPE Chair will be assisted by the new Vice Chairman, Tunji Akinwunmi, of Total. According to Nwakwue, “This is the man that will help me deliver my goods.” Adding that SPE is elated, owing to huge turn-out of participants that graced the occasion of the awards night, where he was enthroned as the new helmsman. “SPE Nigeria Council is deeply grateful for all the supports, encouragements, and physical presence. We will continue to deliver all the goods as planned. This is probably the best society, he averred.”
